March Newsletter

Welcome to the March newsletter from Mackintosh Gin! This is quite a long one, but there is a wonderful competition to be found in the middle!

This month we had hoped to be talking about our love for spring, Mothers Day and feedback from the latest event we were at, which was The Gin To My Tonic Show in Glasgow. There is no escaping it though that right now everyone's mind is on Covid-19/coronavirus pandemic, and rightly so. Our thoughts right now are on our loved ones, friends, family and of course you guys, our ginpals. We hope wherever you are, that you, your loved ones and neighbours are all safe and well.

We have had a lot of emails asking if we are producing hand sanitiser, which we need to confirm we are not personally making, but our distiller, Lewis has been making some and making this available to those in need in the community which we absolutely love. He has been flat out with this so rest assured it is being made and given to those who need it. We don't even have the time to help him with this. As many of you know, we are a very small brand and we have all got other commitments. Deborah is a student Mental Health Nurse and is currently on placement in a busy ward, which is her priority right now. James is currently in Rotterdam with his day job, he is due home at some point in April, but with things changing at a rapid pace we are taking it day by day. Stephanie, Charlotte and Alexandra are all busy with university, with exam season coming up they are focused on them.

Restrictions are now in place in Scotland for social gatherings of more than 500 people and is expected to be in place for four months due to the coronavirus pandemic. This came into effect on Monday so we were very lucky to have been allowed to exhibit at The Gin To My Tonic Show in Glasgow from the previous Friday till the Sunday. The event organisers Em and Paul did an amazing job with the show, and it was an absolutely amazing show. Deborah and Stephanie manned the stand all weekend and had an amazing time.

Our stall was packed from doors opening on Friday through to closing on Sunday. We were delighted to catch up with so many of our ginpals and we made lots of new ones over the weekend. We were sampling our new Mackintosh Mariner Strength gin and our new pineapple & grapefruit Old Tom gin at the show, the feedback we received for both of these was phenomenal! Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to stop and say hi, show us some love, give us encouragement, sample our gin and of course bought a bottle from us. Your support truly is appreciated and we love you all.

We know that it is going to be a difficult time for us all over the next few months, and we know that with restrictions on social gatherings that many of us will be spending our time socialising at home and online for the foreseeable future. We want to share that social bond with you and we will be online with you too. We will do a weekly live on either Instagram or Facebook and will answer any questions that we can, say hello, enjoy a G&T with you and give you any updates we have to share. As a brand we are going to take it in turn as to who will be doing the live, but Stephanie will kick off the first few weeks and will chat about her life as a medical student in self isolation with gin, she might even make some tablet live and share her recipe with you!

As a thank you to you guys for all the love and support you show us, we want to run a fantastic competition for you. As we're all facing time in self isolation, we know many of you will be experimenting with cocktail making at home. Well, we want to see your best Mackintosh Gin cocktails! Over the next 12 weeks we hope to see your creations and share them on social media. Our younger team members will choose 12 cocktails they wish to see shortlisted, and we will pass these to a panel of three bartender pals who will make the 12 cocktails and choose their favourite. The winner will win a mix case of Mackintosh Gin worth £250!

We see this as a fantastic way to remain social with you all, share cocktail ideas and say thank you for being awesome. With the amazing ginpals we have, we are sure that we will have some fun swapping recipes, hanging out online and keeping in touch with each other.

Full details of the competition can be found on our blog: https://www.mackintoshgin.com/post/mackintosh-challenge-2020 as well as on the Mackintosh Challenge documents page along with the entry form.

We will start the ball rolling with Deborah's favourite cocktail, one we make at home quite often, The Fitzgerald!

We have been in discussion with our printers for the new labels as we had to make a couple of tweaks. We are now waiting on proofs being sent out which we expect to arrive this week, once we approve them they will be sent to be printed. We are really excited to have the labels back and the new expressions added to our lineup.

Last month we announced that we are running a pre-sale which we will run until we have the labels back for the new expressions. We've received a few orders so far which has been fantastic. We're still running the pre sale, which is for both the Mariner Strength, Pineapple & Grapefruit Old Tom and a mix case of 6 bottles (2 bottles of each expression). Whilst this promotion runs we're offering an amazing 20% off the price, and if ordering a mix case we will pay the courier costs.

We will run this promotion into April when we receive the labels, at which point the orders placed during this promotion will be dispatched. If you are interested in our pre-sale, click on the link below!
