Welcome to the August newsletter from Mackintosh Gin! July was an exciting month for us with research/behind the scenes developments, August is going to be a very exciting month for us with lots going on, including a few tastings!
We have finished trialling our Navy Strength Gin at different ABV's and in a variety of cocktails, we have concluded that 59% ABV is the perfect strength for this and will therefore look to release this soon. It tastes amazing, is very smooth and the grapefruit really sings! Our crowdfunding campaign will be announced very shortly and the Navy Strength will feature as one of our rewards.
We have also continued working on a gin based liqueur that we hope to release later in the year, or early next year. This was something we weren't going to do but we receive so many emails and we're asked at every tasting event we do if/when we will be doing a liqueur, so we decided to listen to the consumer and will therefore be producing one. Without giving too much away the flavours will be quite exotic, but from what we've played around with so far we're sure you won't be disappointed! Just now we're trialling different sugars to see what gives us the best flavour, and when we have a final product we will announce full details.
We love cocktails at Mackintosh HQ and love making them too, so when the guys from The Gin Cooperative asked if we could provide them with a cocktail recipe for their Shaken & Stirred feature on their website we thought it would be the ideal time to share the Fitzgerald! We love making this as it is very easy to do and tastes amazing! We were first introduced to this by Sarah from Draffens Bar in Dundee on the night it opened a few years ago and have been making these at home ever since!

Shake all the ingredients in an ice filled shaker then strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a slice or twist of lemon peel to garnish. Thanks to Natalie and Martin for the awesome photo below!
In a couple of days, the inaugural International Scottish Gin Day launches on Saturday the 3rd August. The event is an international celebration of all things Scottish Gin. Established by the guys behind The Gin Cooperative, the day brings together Gin makers and brands, whose Gins are distilled, rectified or cold compounded in Scotland and a selection of global bars, retailers and gin drinkers, to celebrate the story of Scottish Gin.
We are very excited to announce that to celebrate the day we are doing a sponsored bar/take over event at The Balmoral in Edinburgh on the evening of the 3rd August. We are really excited for this as The Balmoral is one of the most prestigious hotels in Scotland! They have made a bespoke Mackintosh Gin cocktail menu for the evening which looks amazing. We also have the prestigious Clumsies Bar in Athens including us in their special Scottish Gin Menu on the day with their event to promote the day, and the prestigious Hotsy Totsy Bar in Budapest doing a Mackintosh Gin cocktail for the day!
This weekend we are being featured on the Schweppes bar at the Foodies Festival in Edinburgh. We're really excited for this as we love the passion the guys have. Gaz Jones, their brand ambassador sent us the below photo to promote the event!
We're also doing a tasting event at Geraldo's in Largs on the 10th of this month. We're quite excited about this as we've been looking to do a tasting here for a while now. It's promising to be a very exciting month for us and one which will allow us to catch up with lots of our ginpals and make lots of new ones!
We've had a few enquiries asking about our Crowdfunding campaign, we hope to announce this very soon and will announce this via our social media platforms or via email to those of you who have subscribed to our mailing list.
Keep an eye on our social media channels for further updates, cocktails and where & when we will be offering some tastings of our gin!
Please enjoy Mackintosh Gin responsibly.
