We love this time of year, when summer ends and Autumn begins, it's the time of year when we drink less Brambles and enjoy more Negronis, although Jim enjoys Negronis all year round!
As much as the Bramble and the Negroni are family favourites, our cocktail of choice just now though continues to be The Fitzgerald! We reported on this last month but feel its worth sharing again as it is beautiful, this is how you can make it at home:
60ml Mackintosh Gin
30ml Lemon Juice
15ml Sugar Syrup
4 dashes Angostura Bitters
Lemon peel to Garnish
Shake all the ingredients in an ice filled shaker then strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a slice or twist of lemon peel to garnish
We have made a few more ginpals following our sponsored bar event at Bar Prince at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, we received a lot of messages & photographs from people enjoying Mackintosh Gin in The Balmoral. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us with praise or requesting information on local stockists, rest assured we are in talks with one or two retailers in the city who are keen to stock us and hope to have good news for you soon.
We've decided to postpone our crowdfunding campaign for the time being as we didn't feel we had enough rewards to offer at this time. We'll review this early next year as we will have our Navy Strength Gin and Old Tom Gin available to offer as rewards. We hope to launch both the Navy Strength and Old Tom in the very near future, when we do so we will offer them to our subscribers at a discounted price prior to making them available through our retailers.
The Navy Strength is beautiful, the grapefruit really sings in it and makes it an excellent cocktail gin. The Old Tom, which we're almost there with is proving to be an outstanding gin, in addition to the fresh grapefruit we are using another fresh fruit in the distillation (which we will announce when we launch it) and it tastes amazing. We're just deciding on which sugar/sweetener we're using for the sweetness, and we have pretty much decided so we're just doing another run to confirm.
The next couple of weeks will be very busy. We recently distilled batch 5 which we will be bottling this week, Deborah has written the batch/bottle numbers on the labels that will be applied to the bottles. We turn one next week (wow that came round quickly) having launched in October 2018. Next week Jim is off to Glasgow for the Scottish Gin Awards where we're finalists in two categories, we're up for London Dry Gin of the Year and also Best Marketing Campaign. We're really excited to be shortlisted for a couple of awards, but we're really looking forward to attending the event as it is a highlight of the year for many of the Scottish Gin producers and is a fantastic social event. If you've bought tickets and are going please say hi!
Keep an eye on our social media channels for further updates, cocktails and where & when we will be offering some tastings of our gin!
Please enjoy Mackintosh Gin responsibly.
