We’re still shipping Batch 3 but are now down to less than 100 bottles, which we suspect will go pretty quickly. We'll be distilling Batch 4 very soon as we have a few tasting events and festivals coming up in the next couple of months which will keep us busy. We have been featured in a some tasting events throughout April which has made us new gin pals, most notably the West Coast Fest and a local Gin Tasting event ran by our local bottle shop.
The Crafty Connoisseur team represented us at the recent West Coast Fest in Troon, which judging by the social media posts was an excellent event. We really want to attend this in person next year, it's a well run event with great live music and food vendors. The organisers, J&J Event Bars have some brilliant photos on their Facebook page from the event.
Aitken Wines, a local bottle shop in Dundee runs regular tasting events which are always very well attended. They change the lineup from event to event to give a bit of variety and we are delighted to have featured in the line up several times in the past few months. We get good feedback from these and it's always nice to hear that our gin is enjoyed at these events. We also featured in the last gin tasting event they ran at the end of April where our gin went down well.
We’ve no festivals planned in May but do have a couple of tasting events booked in the diary. Our next big event is Junipalooza at the Tobacco dock venue in London in June which we are very excited for! We're looking forward to meeting lots of our gin pals at what is seen as THE gin event of the year, we'll be in the newcomers’ zone and look forward to saying hi to as many people as we can.
Discussions are still ongoing for exporting to North America and Canada, which is still looking very promising. We have been appointed an Export Advisor which will help us massively. We will of course report on the progress as things develop but hope to have everything in place to make this a reality by the end of the year.
We reported last month (and the month prior!) that we may be running a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for our own still. We’ve been unsure about this but feedback we have received from various people recently makes us think that this is a viable option. We're working out costs for the still and how much we need to raise to make this a reality. We are looking to run the campaign over the summer and have the still in place by the end of the year. Thank you to everyone who has contacted us so far to express an interest in this.
We have spoken with a lot of bartenders across Scotland about our upcoming cocktail competition and it is starting to generate a lot of interest. We will be kicking off the competition in June with a trade tasting session at the Taproom at 71 Brewing in Dundee which will be a fantastic evening. We will post some pictures up on our social media channels on the night.
And finally, we want to share some exciting competition news with you. We were recently voted as a finalist in the Spirit of Gin/Writers Choice category at the 2019 The Gin Guide competition. This category is not open to entry and is purely nominated by writers, bloggers and influencers in the industry based on the gins they have been most impressed with in the past 12 months. To be nominated in this category was an absolute honour that just shows we really do have amazing gin pals. The finalists were Brentingby Gin London Dry, Hills & Harbour, Mackintosh Gin and Red Door Gin. The winner of this category was Brentingby Gin which was well deserved. All three of the other finalists are huge favourites of ours so we really were delighted to be nominated with them.
We also won a bronze in the London Spirits Competition which was a fantastic result for us. This competition is judged by trade professionals such as commercial spirit buyers and top bartenders who judge on 3 counts: quality, value for money and package & design. There is a maximum score of 100 and to win bronze the minimum score to reach is 65. With many other brands not making this score we were totally delighted with a bronze which gives us the confidence that our gin is seen as commercial viable by trade professionals.
Keep an eye on our social media channels for further updates, cocktails and where & when we will be offering some tastings of our gin!
Please enjoy Mackintosh Gin responsibly
